Mind vs. Matter

(Another campus photo of mine. If I have to tell you not to steal it, then it probably won’t matter to you anyway.)

"Mind over matter!" That’s the battle cry of so many optimists. "If you believe in yourself, then you can do ~*ANYTHING*~!!" Sparkles and all.

The thing is that basic needs override all else. If you are physically not well, then it doesn’t matter if you wanna walk to the store—it ain’t gonna happen without consequences.

If you are hungry or sick, then that needs to be taken care of before you can achieve balance or peace within yourself.

Do you have the flu? Then don’t write, for goodness’ sake. (Unless you get some awesome inspiration, of course.) Just focus on getting better.

It’s okay to take care of your body before you get your writing fix. Which is why I was forced to take a nap today.

I went to the library again today. However, today, I got to be someone else.

"What’s your name?" a kid asked.
"Rowena," I answered proudly.
"Who are you dressed as?" the sibling asked immediately afterward.
"I’m Rowena Ravenclaw."
This was, of course, met with blank stares all around.
"I’m a princess," I amended.
Smiles replaced stares, and the parents seemed pretty content.

┬áBut I’ve not been taking care of myself as well as I could be, so I was pretty worn out afterward. Hence the nap. The rest of the day was also taken off—I needed to recover from the past few days, so I allowed myself video game time with a wonderful friend. :)

However, I did write this morning. I only got 153 words out, and I didn’t remember what I had written later, if that tells you how out of it I was.

So just chill out a little if you haven’t been feeling well and aren’t getting any writing done because of it. It’s just more reason to write more when you get back to your normal self.

Extra-credit assignment: Rapid prompt: Write for 10 minutes. Topic: Feeling unwell. Ready? Set. GOOOOOOOOOO!!!
